Admin Console release
We’re pleased to announce that a new release of the Admin Console is now live. A new check box ‘Enable contact preferences and history’ has been added to the Overview page in Prism tenancy admin.
You will be able to use this setting when you implement Alto 5.5 and the associated upgrade to the Local Data Services (LDS). It allows you to switch on the ‘Contact options’ tab in the My Account area of Prism. For further information please refer to the Prism release notice of 11 September 2013.
Please note, the ‘history’ aspect refers to a feature in the forthcoming release of Prism where the user will be able to see the notifications that have been sent to them by the library.
If you have any comments, questions or suggestions on the Admin Console please get in touch. You can comment here on the blog, on the Prism forum and Prism Ideas or contact your Account Manager or the Prism team directly.

Is there likely to be any way to allow access to the history but not the contact preferences on Prism? University policy is that student email is the only contact method so we would not want to give them the option to change that but we would like them to be able to see the history of notifications in their Prism accounts.

Contact Options refers to the method(s) by which the user would prefer the library to send notifications to them, e.g. Email, Text, Voice. (This is subject to the library’s ability to use any of those methods, and the library’s own preferences for methods to use for different types of notification – both of these can be configured in Alto SetConfig.) It does not include displaying or allowing the editing of contact point details such as email address and phone number. That is coming in the next release of Prism and there will be a separate setting in the Admin Console for it.
Does it work for your library to have the notification method options enabled together with the ability to view your notifications?

Hi Terry
No, enabling the ability to change notification preference jointly with the ability to view notifications would not be ideal in our case as we would not want to enable the former at all, only the latter. In addition, if the latter were authentication-dependent we would need to wait until LDAP authentication were possible as we don’t want to introduce PINs.

Thanks Claire, OK we’ll consider splitting it into two separate settings. All of the notification-related features in Prism My Account are authentication dependent, for privacy reasons, so you wouldn’t be able to switch them on anyway.
Other authentication methods are already available in Prism, so please ask your Account Manager for more details. These will be treated as alternatives to PINs being enabled, for allowing the notification-related features.

Thanks Terry
We’re sort of stuck at the moment because students and staff could use LDAP, but associate members can’t at present, so we can’t implement authentication that covers everyone.
