Prism and mandatory HTTPS

Following the release of Prism on 21st November, we received customer feedback that there were issues with some components. We reverted the HTTPS only change on the evening of 22nd November.

The issues reported by our customers were:

  • Catalogue records not being pushed into Prism;
  • Talis Aspire integration no longer working in the browser;
  • Pages reporting mixed content (both HTTP and HTTPS resources).

Since then we have invesitagted each of these reported issues, with the following remedial action being required.

Catalogue records not being updated

We have amended our configuration such that the post of catalogue content functions correctly after we reapply the HTTPS changes.

There is no action required on customer systems.

Talis Aspire

We have spoken with Talis who confirmed that HTTPS is fully supported and available for all their customers when using the *.rl.talis.com URL to access their product. Talis confirmed that they do not support HTTPS where the customer has used their own hostname.

The action required by our customers is to amend the configuration of your Juice plugin to reference your Talis Aspire tenancy using the rl.talis.com domain. This change is made within your Juice plugin configuration within your Prism theme through the Admin Console. Once this is done, the Juice plugin will function correctly using HTTPS.

Mixed mode content

Mixed mode content warnings appear in your web browser when you are on an HTTPS web site which refers to HTTP resources. When this occurrs within JavaScript, such as a Juice plugin, the JavaScript will follow security best practice and may refuse to access the insecure resource.

The end user will see a warning that they are accessing a mixed mode site.

This occurrs when there are HTTP accessed resources within your Prism theme. All resources should be accessed with protocol independent URLS, by omitting the “http:” from the URL. Doing this will ensure that the web browser uses the protocol that is listed within the address bar, HTTPS.

For example:

<img src="//capitadiscovery.co.uk/birmingham/assets/-/image.jpg"/>

Note, the “http:” has been removed, but the double “/” remains.

The action required by our customers is to preview this release by preceding your tenancy URL with ‘demo.’, like this: demo.capitadiscovery.co.uk/{your tenancy name}. If you have your own host name, you’ll need to use demo.capitadiscovery.co.uk instead. You should check that you have been redirected to HTTPS, and your Prism content behaves correctly with no warnings. If there are warnings, these should be fixed in your theme through the Admin Console.

Next steps

Please be aware that Prism currently supports HTTPS for all live pages, and after a borrower has authenticated, they typically remain using HTTPS for the duration of their session. This means that if you have any of the above issues, they are currenly present in your LIVE Prism after a borrower has authenticated.

We will be disabling HTTP use for Prism from Monday 9th January. You should ensure that your Prism content works as expected using the ‘demo.’ URL for your tenancy, and make any required changes before this point.

Should you require any assistance, please raise a support case through the usual channels.

Prism Release Preview 22nd June 2016

We’re pleased to announce that the next release of Prism is now available for preview.
This release includes:

  • Bolinda BorrowBox integration fixes
  • ILL collection location fix
  • Integration of Agilisys Single Sign On

Bolinda BorrowBox integration fixes
Integration with Bolinda BorrowBox and two other econtent providers was included in the December 2015 Prism release. This release fixes some issues:

  • Format eAudiobook now displays in the list of formats available to borrow
  • The availability information in the Item Detail page is now updated after an item is borrowed, displaying correctly both to the user who has borrowed the item and to other users
  • A reservation for a BorrowBox item can now be cancelled in the eContent section of My Account
  • A problem where some items could not be reserved has been fixed.

BorrowBox Availability

If you subscribe to Bolinda BorrowBox and would like the content and functionality to be included in Prism, please contact your Account Manager.

ILL collection location fix
Under the Inter-library loans tab in My Account, the Location column now correctly displays the location where the item is to be collected, when a physical item is to be delivered; the location is blank when the item is to be delivered electronically.

ILL delivery site

Integration of Agilisys Single Sign On
Council systems can enable users to sign in to access personalised services. This new Prism Pro feature enables users to link their library account to their council account, where it uses the Agilisys system, so that they can sign in with their council credentials and navigate between services including the library, i.e. Prism, without having to sign in again.
login
At the Prism Sign In page you’re offered an option to use your institutional username and password.  This takes you to the council’s sign in page. Having signed in there, you’re returned to Prism automatically. The first time this is done,  Prism offers an option to link your council account with your library account.
link-accounts

Once linked, on subsequent visits starting from Prism you’re taken directly into your Prism account after signing in with your council credentials. If you start from somewhere else in the council system and sign in, then you can select a link to the library and be taken directly into your library account in Prism.

When in Prism, having signed in using your  council credentials, you can navigate to a council service and you will be signed in already there.

When you sign out from Prism, you are automatically signed out from the council system.

You can remove the link to your council account at any time from within My Account > Settings.

To find out more about the Agilisys Single Sign On Prism Pro feature please contact your Account Manager.

Making the most of your preview
Please check the preview version as early as possible to familiarise with the new functionality and to ensure that your tenancy still behaves as expected in terms of both functionality, including extensions, and styling.

To preview this release, please precede your tenancy URL with ‘demo.’, like this: demo.capitadiscovery.co.uk/{your tenancy name}. If you have your own host name, you’ll need to use demo.capitadiscovery.co.uk instead.

Prism release 29th February 2016

We’re pleased to announce that the version of Prism that has been in preview recently has now been deployed to the live service.

This release includes:

  • Full text articles only in ILL request search
  • User not allowed to request ILL is given a suitable message
  • Online Joining form contact point defaults
  • Sign in with large or many lists
  • RSS feed fix
  • Copyright date display

Details of the inclusions are described in the preview release notice.

Prism Release Preview 22nd February 2016

We’re pleased to announce that the next release of Prism is now available for preview.
This release includes:

* Full text articles only in ILL request search
* User not allowed to request ILL is given a suitable message
* Online Joining form contact point defaults
* Sign in with large or many lists
* RSS feed fix
* Copyright date display

Full text EBSCO articles only in ILL request search
In Prism Pro ILL, when the user initially submits the details of their request, Prism checks whether the item is already available from the library and alerts the user if it is, including searching on EBSCO EDS where it is used. The search against EDS is now restricted to full text only, so results where only the abstract is available are ignored.

User not allowed to request ILL is given a suitable message
In Prism Pro ILL, users who are not allowed to request inter-library loans (either due to their Type, or because they’re blocked or owe more in charges than the limit configured in the LDS parameters) are now given a controlled message page instead of a technical error page. The default message text is ‘ Sorry you’re not allowed to request inter library loans. Please contact the library for further assistance’; as with all text, it can be customised.
ILL request disallowed message

Online Joining form contact point defaults
The Prism Pro Online Joining form allows four contact points: a postal address, an e-mail address and two telephone numbers. in this release, only the postal address and e-mail address are set as default. LDS version 1.10 or higher is required. This fixes a bug where all four contact points were being set as default.

Sign in with large or many lists
This fixes a problem where a user with large or many lists could be prevented from signing in to Prism. With this release the time taken to sign in is not affected by the volume of lists associated with the user, except when they have created a list anonymously and they are following the link in the list to sign in to keep it. We’re treating separately the issue of retrieving large or many lists.

RSS feed fix
RSS feeds that, for some libraries, are consumed on home or other pages to display new, popular and promoted titles are now working again – they had been giving an error. This was fixed in the December 2015 release.

Copyright date display
Copyright dates, displayed in the Details area of the Item Detail page are now correctly displayed as the year rather than the full  date-time as stored in the database. This was fixed in the December 2015 release.

Admin Console Release 3rd February 2016

We’re pleased to announce that a new release of the Admin Console is now live.

User Management

This release brings User Management – a new option in the top bar that enables you to create and manage additional users of the Admin Console.

User management option

It gives you a list of existing users with options to edit or delete them, or to add a new user.

Users list

To add a new user you specify a username and password, their name and email address, and the features and tenancies that they can administer. Once they have access, they will be able to change their password and email address under Account settings.

Add new user

The control of access to Admin features is managed at two levels: Groups and Roles. You can also specify which tenancies can be administered. Selected Groups and Roles apply equally to all of the selected tenancies for the relevant product, such as Prism. Currently, Groups and Roles are provided only for Prism. Use the arrow controls to select or de-select Groups, Roles and Tenancies for the user.

Groups are broad categories of Admin features; Roles provide access control at a more detailed level. In the cases where there is both a Group and a set of Roles, such as Prism – Moderation, if you select the Group then the user will have all of the Roles for that Group, regardless of whether you explicitly select them. So if, for example, you only want the user to be able to moderate lists but not reviews or tags, then select only the Role Prism – Moderation – Lists, and not the Group Prism Moderation.

For products where Admin Groups and Roles are defined (currently only Prism), you must select at least one Group or Role. If you select a tenancy for any other product then the user will have access to all of the Admin features for that tenancy.

Prism Release Preview 14th December 2015

We’re pleased to announce that the latest release of Prism is now available for you to preview. This release contains two new eContent providers, some enhancements to the Prism Pro ILL Request form and enabling some future integrations with Prism by exposing the borrower barcode and borrower type via Javascript.

eContent Providers
We’ve now added support for both Askews & Holts and Bolinda BorrowBox to Prism, which allows your end users to search for and download both ebook and audiobook files without having to leave Prism 3, as they already can for Overdrive titles.

The availability display for eContent is tailored to digital items, with formats supported, copies available and the size of any reservation queue (Askews & Holts) or when the next title is available (BorrowBox).

Askews ebooks

Once a borrower clicks the “Login to request” button and completes authentication, if the item is available they can proceed to immediately download it to their device:

Askews ebook signed-in

The final piece of the puzzle is the eContent tab in My Account. This displays a consolidated list of all pending eContent reservations and loans from all providers you have configured for your tenancy:

My Account eContent consolidated

If your library subscribes to Overdrive, Holts & Askews or Bolinda BorrowBox and you would like to surface these for acquisition inside Prism, please contact your Account Manager, who can talk you through the steps required to set these up.

We’ve enabled Overdrive, Askews & Holts and Bolinda BorrowBox into our Birmingham tenancy, so to have a sneak peek at the integration you can follow this prepared search link and then facet by collection, which includes three separate entries – one for each provider.

We’ll be adding further eContent providers in the future, so please let us know through the available feedback channels which ones you’d like to see.

Prism Pro ILL Request enhancements
Following feedback from some of our customers we’ve added two new fields to the Prism Pro ILL Request form: a Notes field and a Last useful date field. These will allow borrowers to assist you further in fulfilling the ILL request with any pertinent information and a hard limit on when they actually need the item.

ILL Note and Last Useful

These are enabled automatically for all tenancies with Prism Pro ILL, but if you’d like them supressed, that can be achieved through changes to your site styling by adding:

     body#create div.notes { display: none; }
     body#create div.lastuseful { display: none; }

Barcode and Type in Prism Javascript
Some external integrations that we enable with javascript extensions need to know the borrower barcode and type without having to integrate more tightly with the Local Data Services (LDS). To enable this simpler integration we’ve added the borrower barcode and type to the PRISM javascript object. This can be accessed in your own extensions by reading from:

    PRISM.borrower_barcode
    PRISM.borrower_type

Making the most of your preview

Please check the preview version as early as possible to familiarise with the new functionality and to ensure that your tenancy still behaves as expected in terms of both functionality, including extensions, and styling.

To preview this release, please precede your tenancy URL with ‘demo.’, like this: demo.capitadiscovery.co.uk/{your tenancy name}. If you have your own host name, you’ll need to use demo.capitadiscovery.co.uk instead.
